Pinus strobus Bonsai -White Pine

An exclusive bonsai from European tree nursery cultivation. The White pine – Pinus strobus with botanic name – originates from North America. Free-growing trees there can reach a height of more than 40 m. In Europe, however, it will become hardly half that high. Especially attractive are of course some cultivated shapes. The shrub-shaped type 'nana' for example will only reach a height of 2 m, but as it grows it will be almost covering the ground with a diameter reaching almost three steps. Yellow-needled varieties are popular in our gardens as well. The White Pine grows wide and cone-shaped. It has green, strong shoots, which carry in equal distances the silvery-green needles in bundles of five. The yellow-green, almost leathery cones develop early, become about 15 cm in length and adorn the plant numerously and decoratively. The Pinus strobus loves sunny to partly shaded locations. The soil should be rich in moisture and humus and offer favorable pH-levels.
