Brazil, but now native all around the Mediterranean.

Who doesn't know this plant, bubbling over with lilac to pink blossoms? In our Mediterranean vacation countries it is hanging from the walls, with thousands of shining blossoms. The genus Bouganinvillea consists of almost 20 species. These colorful, climbing, thorny shrubs reach a height of about 5 m. You should be aware that most of these species need direct contact to sunlight for blooming. They need a lot of sunlight and UV radiation, which is reduced behind glass. Therefore only some species will be able to show their blossoms even behind glass.
